Knock at The Cabin : Release Date, Cast, Trailer, etc – Originally teased on October in a tweet from M. Night Shyamalan featuring the film’s title paired with an ominous knocking sound, Knock at the Cabin is almost here. The film is the second in a two-film partnership between Universal Pictures and Shyamalan’s production company, Blinding Edge Pictures. The first film of the pair is Old, released in 2021.

Knock at the Cabin is actually based on the 2018 novel by horror writer Paul G. Tremblay titled The Cabin at the End of the World, which earned Tremblay its second Bram Stoker Award. Tremblay has several other horror novels, such as A Head Full of Ghosts, but this will be the first film adaptation of all the stories.

After his first film, The Sixth Sense became a famous film in 1999, M. Night Shyamalan struggled to satisfy some of his fans with his next release. His storytelling style became famous for his trademark commonly referred to as “Shyyamalan Twist,” which has been referenced many times in pop culture. In 2015, his career started to stabilize and he regained the trust of his fanbase again with the success of The Visit.

Since then, Shyamalan has continued to impress with Split and Glass as the sequel to his 2000 superhero film Unbreakable. Prior to making Old, he teamed up with Apple TV+ to create a suspenseful television show called Servant, which currently has three seasons and awaits its January premiere for its fourth and final installment.

Shyamalan has a penchant for being a one-man show, consistently writing, producing, and directing his own films. Knock at the Cabin proved no different, with Shyamalan adapting the screenplay from Tremblay’s original novel. This article will tell you everything you need to know about Shyamalan’s increasingly impressive portfolio.

What’s Knock at the Cabin About?

Knock at the Cabin follows a couple, Andrew and Eric, and their young adopted daughter as they settle into a cabin in the woods for a relaxing getaway. However, their loner recreation doesn’t last long, as they are soon approached by a man and three other strangers. He introduced himself as “Leonard” to his daughter when he was out collecting bugs alone. She tells him her name is Wen and asks why she is there.

Her response was that she should have been friends with him and her father, but she was “heartbroken” over something she and her friends had to do. As he told her this, three other people emerged from the surrounding forest, all carrying an ominous type of weaponry. We see Wen rushing back to the cabin and his father, as he feels uncomfortable with Leonard and his friends.

After he spoke to Andrew and Eric through the locked cabin door, the four strangers forced their way into the house. With both fathers subdued, Leonard explains to the family that he and his group have “a very important job to do,” which is perhaps the most important job “in the history of the world.” In short, he was telling the terrified family that they had to make a choice, and if they didn’t, it would bring about the apocalypse.

With four strangers coming in and bringing this news, it’s hard not to imagine them as the biblical “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.” Will little Wen become a metaphorical sheep? Another interesting trait of Shyamalan to remember is that he has a tendency to incorporate religion into some of his stories, such as in Signs where the main character is a Catholic priest who struggles with his beliefs after the death of his wife.

Details on what kind of choice will be left unknown for now, but you can rest assured that it will not be an easy decision. If you are someone who enjoys and is actively looking for spoilers, you only need to read the book if you don’t want to wait to find out.

Cast of Knock at the Cabin

Cast of Knock at the Cabin

As previously mentioned, the cast of this film is very intimate, with seven main cast. Who are they, and what is their role in the film?

Dave Bautista will play as Leonard. Due to his impressive stature and background in wrestling, he is often cast in physically intimidating roles, such as Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy. M. Night Shyamalan was so impressed with Bautista’s performance in the 2017 film, Blade Runner 2049, that he cited it as one of the main deciding factors in offering the actor the lead role.

Eric and Andrew will be played by Ben Aldridge and Jonathan Groff, respectively. Aldridge is best known for his television shows. Groff has a broader backdrop with iconic performances on screen and stage. He played the sassy King George in Lin Manuel Miranda’s hit broadway musical Hamilton, as well as scheming FBI agent Holden Ford in the drama series Mindhunter.

Kristen Cui will play the adorable Wen, Eric and Andrew’s adopted daughter. Cui is new to the game and this will be his first acting debut.

Rupert Grint and Nikki Amuka-Bird are both Shyamalan veterans, with Grint starring in Servant and Amuka-Bird playing big roles in Old. They will play the characters Redmund and Adriane, respectively, and are joined by Abby Quinn (Landline) as Sabrina. The three form a group that joins Leonard Bautista in breaking into the cabin to take the family hostage.

Release Date

the film will be premiere on 3 February 2023. The film was originally supposed to be released on February 17, but the release date was pushed back by two weeks. Shyamalan stated that this was the fastest turnover for any script he has ever written, and production and filming took place in a flash between April 19 and June 10 this year.

With a new release date of February 3rd, Knock at the Cabin currently has no box office competition. That will likely change as we get closer to the date, but if it keeps the original February 17 release, it will stack up against Disney’s upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumia.

February 3 may not come fast enough for some, but until then, you can have the Shyamalan (or “Shyamalarathon,” as some might say) marathon and watch some of the previous movies on various streaming services. A visit might be a good place to start if you want to see how Shyamalan can take a seemingly harmless situation and turn it into something very uncomfortable.
